Wardrobe Refresh: Donating My Clothes to Charity with Boohoo.com +TRAID

Hey Guys,

So I recently partnered up with Boohoo.com and TRAID to have a bit of a wardrobe refresh by donating a ton of my unworn clothing to charity and getting a brand new outfit from Boohoo! With Autumn/Winter fashion season here, what could be better than to donate some unworn clothes to make room for some great new pieces!

(Keep reading for a link to my Wardrobe Refresh YouTube Video!)

Donating to charity is something I really love to do, whether that be making a clothing donation to my local charity store or having a browse and making a purchase myself.
I love looking through charity shops all over the world, from browsing Good Will in LA last Summer, to searching through the many charity shops in St Andrews, Scotland this summer. I love to pick up vinyl records for my collection and little homeware bits (I found an amazing plant pot in Edinburgh this summer!).

After searching through my vast wardrobe, I managed to find a number of awesome items to donate including some worn and many unworn things. I recently lost quite a substantial amount of weight, causing me to drop about 3 dress sizes, so I had quite a few things that I never even got to wear! They will make a great home for someone.

Donating unwanted items not only helps the charity you donate to, but it also stops the items becoming unnecessarily dumped on a land-fill. By recycling your belongings, we can cut down the amount of excess waste.

About TRAID:

TRAID is a charity working to stop clothes from being thrown away. They turn clothes waste into funds and resources to reduce the environmental and social impacts of our clothes. It is a circular and sustainable approach to the problems of clothes waste tackling disposal, production and consumption by:-

1. Increasing clothes reuse across the UK reducing waste, carbon emissions and consumption
2. Funding international development projects to improve conditions and working practices in the textile industry
3. Educating people of all ages about the impacts of textiles on the environment and people’s lives, and how we can make more sustainable choices

I decided to donate to my local British Heart Foundation. I actually started my working life in the backroom of my local British Heart Foundation as a volunteer. I started as a way to gain some retail experience aged 18. I really enjoyed my time working with the team and decided to go back to for this project.

All the things I donated! Jackets, shoes and more!

I head down to the store and met with the lovely manager who was very pleased to see me. I handed over the items and had a little browse of the shop myself. I found a cool leopard print, faux-fur jacket and some quirky shoes. The vinyl section was also strong!

Making the donation benefited my wardrobe as it helped me create some much needed space and clear out things that I wouldn't ever wear. But most importantly, those items I gave will now generate an income for the charity that will go towards a great cause.
It feels great to donate!

Remember, if you are a tax payer, you can sign up to "Gift-Aid": "a scheme enabling registered charities to reclaim tax on a donation made by a UK taxpayer, effectively increasing the amount of the donation. Using Gift Aid means that the taxman will add 28p to every pound you give"
