How to Combat Your Negative Thoughts
The past few months have not been easy for anyone. For most of us, we have been stuck indoors, either with friends, family or loved ones. For a select few of us, we have been relatively alone. I have felt detached from "normal" life at times. No amount of scrolling on Instagram or Zoom chats with friends, has filled my social void. However, I am trying to see the positive in this. Being left alone with my own thoughts for most of the day, has forced me to address the topics of self-love and self-care. With little to no distractions, I have had to face many waves of negative thoughts. I had an extremely low few days just a few weeks into lockdown. I learned how to ride that wave as best as I could at the time, but have recently been thinking of more practical ways to combat my negative thoughts. Wearing Daisy London Sunflower necklace and holding flowers from Bloom and Wild
I recently came across a Tik Tok video that inspired me - hear me out! It was by "The Singing Zoo Keeper" (Louise) where she spoke about a method to help combat self-critical, negative thinking. I am frequently my own worst enemy, trying to convince myself of things that are simply not true. From my appearance, to my success, our brains can do all sorts of mental gymnastics to shoe-horn a narrative that is simply not true.
In the Tik Tok video, Louise suggests we write down some things that we love about ourselves, to refer to in those low moments. I thought this a brilliant idea, mainly because I realised I had never actually  thought deeply about the qualities I really liked about myself.
It took me three attempts! The first round, I aimed to write 10 things I liked about myself and my personality. What I actually ended up writing was a list of things I enjoyed doing. I wrote about playing with puppies and gift giving. However, that wasn't the original task! After two more tries, I finally ended up with a list of things I loved about my personality. Now I am all prepped for a wobbly day. When reading my list, I hope to be reminded of all my positive, wonderful qualities!

I would love to hear what some of your favourite qualities are about yourselves? Let me know if you try this in the comments.
I also want to say thank you to Daisy London, who gifted this beautiful, gold "Sunflower" necklace which I am wearing!
